Frequently Asked Questions
What do your rental properties look like?
They all vary in shape, size, color, location, decor, and feature amenities. Some have mountain views, some have hot tubs, some sit on water, some have pool/game tables.
However, all of our properties have basic household amenities such as telephone, television, a fully equipped kitchen (microwave, stove, refrigerator, pots and pans, dishes, etc.) They also all have linens (bedsheets/towels/washcloths, etc.) So the best thing to do is to look at each property listings on our program and click on the category that best suits your group, and discover for yourself just what we have to offer!
What is there to do in the area?
First of all, please realize that we are in the mountains. With that, most of our activities are outdoor related. That also means that a lot of the area activities are also seasonal. In the summer, rafting on the Ocoee River, or tubing on the Toccoa or Hiwassee Rivers are usually the primary reason that people visit in the warm months. Horseback Riding is popular year round. Hiking through the national forests are also something “different” to do, as is kayaking, mountain biking, and more. If hiking just doesn't seem to be your thing, we'd recommend taking a drive through the mountains, especially in the fall time on one of the scenic highways here in the area. Copperhill now boasts two scenic trains; one coming in from Blue Ridge and a new one coming in from Etowah, Tennessee. For the kid in all of us, this is certainly something to try!
If you're looking for something besides the outdoors, downtown Blue Ridge, McCaysville, and Copperhill all offer shopping and restaurants. A trip to Murphy, North Carolina or Ellijay, Georgia will land you at your nearest Wal*Mart, the stores and restaurants surrounding.
For more detailed information, check our Area Adventures page.
Where in the world is the Ocoee River?
The Ocoee River is the centerpiece of our service area. While that doesn't answer your question, maybe this will – it is in the far southeastern corner of Tennessee. If you open up a map and put your finger where Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina all come together, that's our service area, and that's where the River is.
What are the policies and procedures?
You can read up all about our policies and procedures on our policies page.
How do I get there?
Check our Directions page for directions to our office. Depending on what cabin you stay in and where you are coming from, we might send you directions straight to the cabin instead of stopping by the office first. This is a judgment call on our part – we try to make the choice that is the most convenient and yet is also the safest available. If you still need help getting to our office, please call a member of our office staff.
**We seriously advise that you do not use an Internet mapping service. Our previous guests have found that they are very unreliable, and just might even get you lost in a town with only one red light.
Are you related to AcornCabinRentals.com?
Yes. Acorn Cabin Rentals was a former competitor we bought out December 23rd, 2004. For various reasons, we have kept the name and the domain name (web address).
Will Mountain Escapes manage my rental cabin?
We just might! All of our properties are independently owned by people just like you all over the East Coast. If it is up to our standard of quality and is in our service area, we'll in all likelihood be glad to manage it. If you have a property or if you are looking to buy a property here in the area, feel free to contact us at your convenience, and we'll be glad to talk to you one-on-one about our management program.
